March 2019

We are excited to have over 40 students competing this month in various competitions as part of their Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO)! These include students from SkillsUSA, HOSA (Heath Occupations Students of America), and FGE (Future Georgia Educators). We also have students who have advanced to the Georgia Technology Fair. To see these students in action is a testament to the talents they have been able to develop, refine, and showcase through their experiences at CCA!

February 2019

One focus this month has been the community involvement that is such an important part of CCA. Each of our programs has an advisory committee comprised of experts in industry, and the second semester meetings began this month. These committee members provide advice on industry standards, access to workplace learning opportunities for students and teachers, and insight into the industry requirements for career and college readiness..We also hosted a meeting for the CCA Board of Directors as well as a tour for the Whitesburg STEM Mentoring Club. We are blessed to have such talented and dedicated community members who give of their time to impact the lives of the students in the Carroll County School System through CCA!

January 2019

The new year has already started with a lot of great activities and
events in store for the CCA South students! Five of our students
placed at the Carroll County School System Technology Fair and will
advance to the region competition later this month. Also, our
SkillsUSA sponsors have identified and registered our students who
will be competing at the upcoming SkillsUSA region event. Activities
such as these give our students the opportunity to showcase their
talents alongside other dynamic students in our region while being
guided by experts in the field. We look forward to hearing the outcome
of these competitions and preparing our all of our students to be
ready for every opportunity that comes their way!

December 2018

This is the season when we reflect on the year and think about the

gifts we enjoy every day. To me, it is a gift to work with the
students, teachers, parents, and community members who are part of the
College and Career Academy! We are looking forward to the New Year!

November 2018

November has been another productive month at CCA South! We had a great report from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency after their review of our facility, and we are at work to find even more ways to ensure the safety of all students while they are with us each day.

We hosted the ninth graders for two days for their annual tour of our programs. This has been an effective way to introduce our pathways to students during their first year of high school. It is our goal that every student takes at least one class at CCA which we hope will lead to completing a career pathway, exploring dual enrollment, and getting real-world work experience through Career Connections!

Our Full STEAM Ahead students spent the week at 12 for Life. This allowed them to have an immersive STEAM experience in a real Southwire facility, and greatly strengthened the connections they are making between the classroom and the expectations of industry.

All of our instructors have also completed the first of at least two advisory committee meetings as of this month. These committees are comprised of industry representatives who meet with us to get updates, learn about our goals for the school year, and offer their valuable expertise for ways to improve and enhance our pathways for students.

Finally, in the spirit of Thanksgiving, we are thankful for our students, instructors, parents, school board, community members, and business partners who work together to make CCA South a premiere learning environment!

October 2018

October is already proving to be a great month at CCA South! The annual Business and Community Day was held on October 3, and attendance was even higher than last year. We are grateful to the parents and members of our business and school communities for taking the time to visit our campus, and to the CCA South students and instructors who worked so hard to make the facility look extraordinary for the special day!

September 2018

It has been an exciting month at CCA South! Enrollment has increased since last year, and the instructors are hard at work to ensure their students get the greatest experience possible.

The best news this month is that Carroll County School System now has a graduation rate of 92%, the highest it has ever been! This historical achievement is even more remarkable in a system with five high schools, and further proof that Carroll County School System is truly an education destination for anyone seeking the best schools for their students!

August 2018

It has been a great start to the 2018-19 school year! Many thanks to all of you who attended our first Open House in conjunction with the schools we serve!

The theme for our school system this year is “Committed to Changing Lives”, and this is what happens every day at the College and Career Academy South Campus thanks to the dedication and expertise of some of the best instructors in the nation!  I believe the programs offered through our campus and 12 for Life are often the keys to students finishing high school and reaching their individual potentials as they go into the workforce and postsecondary education. It is our commitment at CCA South to create an environment where students feel welcome, are challenged by the material, and have the opportunity to build relationships that have a lasting impact on their lives.

We look forward to working with you this year! Be sure to check out the Convocation video featuring a CCA South alumnus! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGikaA8quEs. More updates coming in September!
